This story idea actually originated as a simple reported feature on several people who had experience using Narcan on someone overdosing.
Through discussions with the reporter and illustrator, the project evolved to become primarily told through a mix of comics panels and text, with a fully responsive page layout that creates a visual rhythm.
I built a CSS/Javascript animation system for the AI2HTML comic panels that allowed timed tweens between panels, so we could animate dramatic moments in the narrative.
Another key service-journalism element was including a shareable and downloadable card with a guide to the before/during/after of administering naloxone. This used the Web Share API for easy share, and was formatted to be saved to a phone for quick access.
